Sydney & Online Psychologist Harriet: A Window Into My Approach

Coming Home to Ourselves: A Look Inside My Evidence Based, Holistic Therapeutic Approach

In a world that often pulls us in a thousand directions, I aim to offer you a path home to yourself.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in compassion, nervous system wisdom, and the belief that small, intentional steps can lead to big, lasting change. Working primarily with those experiencing anxiety, overthinking, low mood, and that feeling they are constantly “on,” I hope to create a space where you can exhale, slow down, and begin to feel again — safely and gently.

A Nervous System-Informed Lens

At the heart of my work is a deep respect for the nervous system. Rather than pathologising anxiety, shutdown, or overwhelm, I aim to support you to understand these responses, generally, as the body’s way of trying to protect you.

Drawing from Polyvagal Theory, I can support you to tune into your internal states and build a map of your stress responses — from fight-or-flight to freeze to safety and connection.

Through psychoeducation, body-based practices, and attuned conversation, I aim to help you recognise when your nervous system is dysregulated and build a toolbox of strategies to return to groundedness and presence. Because when we feel safe inside and attune to our needs, our relationships often deepen, and we can move through our anxiety, and back into greater calm and clarity.

A Holistic, Integrative Approach

I blend evidence-based therapies, Cognitive-Based Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, with nervous system regulation, mindfulness, and values-based coaching. I don’t just focus on “fixing problems; “ I aim to empower you to:

  • Build sustainable emotional resilience and the confidence to regulate your nervous system and safely “move through” emotions
  • Practice self-compassion in real-time moments of stress
  • Reconnect with your values so you can live in a way that feels more aligned
  • Let go of rigid self-criticism and perfectionism in order to make space for what feels more you
  • Practical Tools That Meet You Where You Are

Together, we can build a toolbox of regulation strategies that you can use in everyday life.

These might include:

  • Grounding and orienting exercises to calm racing thoughts and move through stress and anxiety
  • Breath-work and movement to discharge stored stress in the body
  • Mindful self-talk and defusion techniques that help you take control of your mindset and become the interested observer of your thoughts
  • Nervous system mapping to recognise patterns, move through stress, and intercept cycles that no longer serve you
  • Values clarification to make empowered choices that truly align with your goals and what feels right to you

If you’re feeling anxious, burnt out, or just disconnected from yourself, I endeavor to offer you more than just coping strategies; my approach also invites you to slow down, breathe, and build the capacity to feel safe in your own body and in your own life.

Take care,

Harriet x
